A lunchtime panel presentation about the growth of the travel and tourism industry in the greater Houston area and the impact it can have on businesses and communities. Also covered, how business and community can claim their part of tourism growth.

Three Panel Speakers:

   Jorge Franz is the Senior Vice President of Tourism for Houston First and the Greater Houston CVB. He has been working for the Houston office since 2001 and in this capacity, is in charge of promoting Houston as a great place to visit. As a part of the recent merger with Houston First his responsibilities include working with travel trade to create to new initiatives that show measureable returns to Houston hospitality partners and new economic impact to Houston. He is also spearheading efforts to create and improve Houston's tourism "product."
   Mr. Franz is very active in the Tourism community. He is staff liaison for the Houston First Joint Tourism Committee and is Past Chair of the Texas Medical Center's International Affairs Advisory Council and a Past Chair of the Governor of Texas ' Tourism Advisory Committee

   Nick Wolda is the President of The Woodlands Convention and Visitors Bureau. Nick began his career with The Woodlands Township in 1999. During his tenure, he worked on project teams which included the development of The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel & Convention Center, the expansion of The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion to nearly 17,000 capacities; and the developments of Market Street, Town Green Park and Waterway Square.
   Today, he oversees the implement of The Woodlands Township community relations strategies and CVB marketing programs, including public relations and advertising. He oversees the marketing and promotion of special events and festivals, including the Red, Hot & Blue Festival, The Ice Rink and Lighting of the Doves, among others. He was a founding member of The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival which is now ranked in the Top 10 of all arts festivals in the country. His marketing programs have won numerous awards from the International Festivals & Events Association, International Economic Development Council and several state-wide organizations. Nick has successfully positions public relations articles on The Woodlands in media outlets such as USA Today, Travel + Leisure, Southern Living Magazine, Corporate & Incentive Travel, Golf Digest, Zagat?s and  numerous radio and television  programs.
   A graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University, Mr. Wolda began his career as a writer for The Lufkin Daily News and the Houston Chronicle. In his 29 years of marketing, Nick has provided sales, marketing, public relations and advertising guidance to a variety of corporations, companies, state associations and governmental entities.

   Harold Hutcheson has served as the manager of the Conroe Convention & Visitors Bureau ever since the city of Conroe took control of the department in 2009 from the Conroe-Lake Conroe Chamber of Commerce.
   Before Hutcheson joined the CYB, he worked as a creative dire tor at an advertising agency for 20 years in New York City called Ogilvy & Mather, where he was the first Texan to work for the international company. Following Ogilvy & Mather, Hutcheson ran his own advertising agency for seven years before serving as national marketing director for Hewlett-Packard Co.
   Hutcheson made a career change after leaving HP and went on to work in Huntsville for the Texas Historic Commission as its Main Street program manager before he accepted the manager position at the CYB.
